I-20 Requirements

For students planning on attending on an F-1 visa, once admitted they will need to be issued an I-20 to schedule a visa interview.  Below are the items needed for the I-20 to be issued.

Passport

We must have a copy of a student’s passport biographical page.  The passport cannot be expired and must not expire for 6 months.

Financial Statement Form

This form advises on the costs related to the amount needed for the I-20, it should be sent to students once they have been admitted.  It must be signed by the student and their sponsor if applicable.

Financial Support Documents

Students must show proof of support of $36,500 USD or more to be issued their I-20.  Scholarships and Graduate assistantships can be used towards this total.  To be accepted the funds must be liquid funds and the documentation must be less than 6 months old for the I-20 to be issued.  Some examples of acceptable documents are:

  • Bank Letter
  • Scholarship Award Letter
  • Graduate Assistantship Award Letter
  • Bank Statement
  • Personal Loan Agreement
